Through using advanced interactive ICT techniques, including Augmented Reality (AR) the TEM material is transformed to an innovative interactive, attractive and mobilizing educational tool (IEM Material).At the end you will find a Toolkit for Educators on ICTs.

chapter 1 - understanding climate change
Exploring the Skies: Weather vs Climate Change
Students delve into the distinctions between weather and climate through direct observations and data collection at our school’s weather station. The program culminates in a two-day expedition with outdoor activities enhancing their understanding through real-world experiences.

The greenhouse effect and its role in climate change
By working on selected visual material e.g. diagrams, charts, videos, the students will increase their understanding and make a clear distinction between the greenhouse natural phenomenon and the climate crisis caused by humans.

Steps to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint in Transport
Students estimate the carbon footprint of their usual means of transport for their journeys between home and school. They evaluate whether it is possible for them to change their habits to reduce their carbon footprint.

Become a climate researcher
In this math lesson, students will explore how scientists track climate change using data and graphs. They will learn to read and interpret simple climate graphs, identify trends, and discuss how math helps us understand global warming.

Is climate news overwhelming? Let’s Debate
From floods and fires to droughts and famines – worrying headlines about climate change dominate the news and may cause us anxiety. Students debate about how much “climate-crisis” news is too much – before hearing expert advice about how to cope with eco-anxiety.

chapter 2 - impacts of climate change
“Heart of the Arctic” Escape Room
In this escape room that is set up in the school premises, students solve puzzles of environmental challenges in order to unlock the “Heart of the Arctic”. They practice problem-solving and teamwork while increasing empathy and stewardship, and observing the swift changes occurring in the Arctic.

Extreme weather events in the News
Through real-world news stories, students insight into how events like hurricanes, floods, heatwaves, and wildfires disrupt ecosystems, economies, and societies. The activity emphasizes the broader impacts, i.e. financial losses, environmental degradation and social challenges, while developing the overall media literacy.

Wildfires & Climate Change
Students explore the impact of wildfires on forests and climate change through guided fieldwork and comparative analysis of affected and unaffected areas. By engaging with local environments and using interactive methods, students will gain awareness of the causes and effects of wildfires, fostering a sense of responsibility.

A water story from the 1950s (drama)
Students explore the challenges faced by a small Mediterranean island community in the 1950s when their essential water supply is compromised. By embodying various characters students navigate the realities of scarcity and resource management. The activity fosters empathy, creativity and teamwork

Urban Heat Islands
By comparing temperatures in various spots in and around their school students discover the formation of heat islands in urban environments. Moreover, they critically reflect on the disproportionate impact of heat on the city’s poorest and most vulnerable communities.

Unwelcome guests: threats to biodiversity & ecosystems
The activity aims to make students aware about the growing problem of alien species due to climate change and their impact on native species. To mitigate damage a high level of awareness and support is needed. Everyone can contribute to “citizen science” activities if properly trained.

Invasive Species (Awareness Campaign)
Students create an awareness campaign about the threats of an invasive species in the Mediterranean. They design materials to inform the local community about the ecological risks posed by these invaders and promote actions to prevent their spread.

The traditional round braided bread and the 17 steps
This activity includes a storytelling game that integrates the 17 SDGs. Students participate in discussion, story dramatisation and create their own cumulative story on environmental issues related to Climate Change.

Sustainable Spaces: A Green Infrastructure Tour
Students examine how “green” infrastructures contribute to improving the quality of life in cities. They visit green buildings, observe and collect data on their energy efficiency, water conservation, infrastructure, etc. They then come to conclusions and propose measures so that their own school becomes “greener”.

Water Conservation
In this activity, the goal for the students is to learn why it is important to conserve water in our daily lives and ways to do it. Water conservation and climate change are deeply interconnected, as they influence and exacerbate each other. Water conservation helps mitigate climate change.

Plastic-Free Schools: Make a Difference!
Students explore the connection between plastic production, pollution, and climate change. The goal is to increase awareness of the impacts of single-use plastics (SUPs) and inspire action. Students organize a “Clean-up Day” campaign, promote reusable alternatives, and advocate for plastic-free policies at school.

Burned Forest Guardians (Field‐Research)
Do you avoid visiting burnt areas because it upsets you too much? Although the sight of burned trees is heart-breaking, the power of nature to regenerate is amazing and such a visit could be surprisingly rewarding. In this activity we follow the natural regeneration process of a forest after a fire.

ICTS | toolkit for educators
The PARCCE Toolkit has been developed to support educators in teaching climate change effectively within pedagogical frameworks and through advanced ICT tools. By leveraging advanced digital ICT techniques, including Augmented Reality (AR) and Gamification within Environmental and Outdoor Education, the Toolkit draws on principles of Education for Sustainable Development, the Whole-School Approach, and Inclusive education, providing practical guidance to foster meaningful, engaging, and holistic learning experiences.
